SUCCESS IS ROOTED IN RELATIONSHIPS
It took me several years in corporate business to gain the awareness that relationships are more pivotal to long term success than delivering a program on time, within budget, and with complete functionality.
This is not something I was ever taught or expected. People are much less attached to the outcome of a project than to how they were treated and if they felt included. When people share information and work through challenges together, a bonding of trust and potential forms. I've seen this on contracts between customer and developer organizations. Programs where the client felt heard and involved were more likely to result in a follow on contract, regardless of the initial outcome. I've also seen this in leadership workshops. On teams where someone new the answer and flawlessly led their group to victory, participants reported negative feelings about the exercise and the group. Teams that struggled together, regardless of whether they solved the challenge or not, reported positive feelings about the exercise and the group. In all aspects of life, it really is about the journey and not the destination. Read more . . . What makes a winning program? |
