RELATIONSHIPS ARE THE FUTURE YOU CHOOSE
Is your experience of directed physical distancing creating a feeling of social distancing? The two don’t have to be synonymous.
Take time to meet with a good friend or create a new one. Your happy and healthy future depends on it. I went to NY to visit my parents last week. They’re healthy at 85 and 90 years old. They’re also lonely, and seemed more appreciative of this visit than ever before. Most people stopped visiting them months ago. Studies from the University of Chicago show that if you have five or more close friends, you are 50% more likely to describe yourself as “very happy”. An 82-year Harvard University longitudinal study shows that close relationships promote health and happiness. They help you weather challenges and promote mental, physical, and emotional well-being. Your relationships are better predictors of a long, healthy and happy life than your financial status, fame, social class, IQ, genes, and even your cholesterol level. Today is a good day to reach out, open up, and create an authentic connection. Happiness promotes a healthy immune system . . . spread it! |
