As with any structure, the most critical or impactful blocks are in the foundation. The foundation for how we approach life and handle challenges is built into our DNA, but how our DNA expresses is dependent on our environment, experiences, beliefs, and expectations.
This is all supported by the neurological pathways that develop and crystalize in the parts of our brain responsible for subconscious survival responses – the limbic system (memory retrieval, emotional response, and hormone release). This is developed from our childhood environment and experiences - to learn how to survive (physically, mentally, socially, emotionally) - and further reinforced and crystalized by our beliefs and expectations as we mature.
The most impactful experiences are those that carry the most emotional energy . . . both joyful and painful. And, it is the most painful that our survival system pays the most attention to.
To begin unraveling painful childhood experiences is to begin unraveling the crystalized neurological pathways for how we automatically respond to life. This is the doorway for healing, and for creating new possibilities of responding to situations in fresh and new ways. The journey of developing emotional intelligence begins here.
